Dear Alumnus,
Hope you are doing fine.
The latest news from our college is: Dr.R.Ramachandran ( he has been the
HOD of ECE and CSE Departments earlier ) has taken over as our new
Principal suceeding Dr.N.Nithianandam, who has been now deputed as the
Director of Research.
Another good news is that our college is planning to go in for Deemed to
be University status.
We have been affiliated to Madras University and Anna University for
quite a long period of time ( 22 Years) and we have established out
reputation in these Universities.
The Alumni members have been a key factor in building......
I had replied to the sender providing my opinion in it. i wasnt sure if it will be taken wil some importance. So i thought Blogging that same mail might bring out responses from my friends. Here is the content.
I have been a dormant member so far in this Alumni committee. I happened to check this news on SVCE looking for for being Deemed. Although i am happy of the fact that this is a nice attitude for change, however i am worried if SVCE has all the right attributes(as in infrastructure) for availing that status.
- There were times when me and my friends have talked about this deemed status, we always felt that SVCE has all the necessary and important things set in the right place but for the infrastructure(like, good cafeteria, good seminar hall, good auditorium etc). There may be mixed responses about the attributes i ve quoted, but what is more important is that if it really fit enough to be for a Deemed university.
- Post my UG at SVCE, I had two years experience at IT industry and then i switched over to academics to pursue my Masters. This new paradigm shift has shown me lot of new things. RESEARCH. Well I must be honest commenting about this. I find that most of the Engg. colleges in INDIA dont really focus on this. I am not specifying any other univs. But i am just talking about the majority of Engg colleges. One must keep US univs (or some other Univ outside india) as reference and then think if we are really into research. Being an SVCEian of the past, i am really more concerned about what SVCE has to say about research I honestly feel there is no such reall research work happening in there, (Guys lemme know if i was ignorant). Occasionally i see students publishing papers in tech symposiums(But this alone cannot contribute to research). RESEARCH will be one of those important consideration for any DEEMED University which SVCE might be at threat if they apply for it.
Guys What say ?

Rightly said!
Praveen,
Quite true..
but i think deemed to be status
might be also for increasing the count of no of students who graduate every year i think right now its 120 cse grads per year you never know they might increase to 300 or 400 who knows
though the claim its for good
you never know what the orig intensions might be
First of all, thanx for the info. Good that u show interest in gathering info about our SVCE. U rightly pointed out the fact that not many indians colleges stress on research work. Moreover, the educational system needs to be revised in such a way that students have a practical approach towards what they learn. SVCE has a great reputation and good faculty. Lets hope that if SVCE gets this status, quality of education improves further.
Correct to the point. Whats the alumni association's contact?

probably SVCE may raise to Reseach Oriented college once it gets deemed university status.
Otherwise it may have to change its name once again as 'damned' university
